When a death occurs, particularly that of a family member or close loved one, it is naturally a difficult and confusing time. A large number of people will have little or no experience of the situation that has been thrust upon them, often without much or even any warning. Many people may understandably have the immediate thought “I have no idea what I must do now”. There are some things that need to be done right away, but fortunately we can attend to many of them for you.
When someone dies:
Often your first instinct, particularly if the person is elderly or has been seriously ill, will be to phone their Doctor. If they are under Hospice care this is the correct thing to do, otherwise you should phone your local police or 911. It is then a good idea to call a close friend or family member for support, should you need it at this very difficult and stressful time. While you are waiting for help to arrive you can also call our 24 hour/every day of the year phone number, 617-569-0990 or 1-877-624-0990. The phone number will always be answered, however depending on when you call it may be our answering service who will pass on your message immediately. We will call you back right away and, being a family business, it will almost always be Joseph Ruggiero personally. We can make arrangements with the hospice nurse or police to transfer the deceased to our memorial home once they have completed their duties, or delay this for a little while if you would like some private time with the deceased.
If death occurs suddenly by accident, violent or unexplained means you should contact the Police immediately, either your local police or call 911. We can advise and assist you at this difficult time, and will always respond immediately to your phone call at any hour. If it is necessary to transfer the deceased for official examination, we can liaise with the police and coroner’s office on your behalf.
